Author ** Menachem Stein ** (1911 – 1999) was an American mathematician and professor at various universities in the University of California system. He earned his undergraduate degree at Harvard summa cum laude in 1933 and PhD at Caltech in 1936. He become the full Professor at University of California, Los Angeles, later chaired (1958–1964) of its mathematics department.

He was the author of many mathematical textbooks. His area of work and research is calculus with analytic geometry, advanced calculus, general theory of functions and integration and Functional analysis.
