CSS EXAM SCHEME
The Central Superior Services (CSS) is a competitive exam conducted by Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) of Pakistan, Islamabad. This high competitive exam is held every year in October/November for recruitment to posts in Basic Pay Scale 17 under Federal Government.

This is one of the most popular and tough category exam in Pakistan. CSS exam is held in the month of November or December once a year. FPSC sets the dates of examinations in begin of the year. Applicant must fulfill the following eligibilty criteria for appearing in CSS Exam.
Age Limit
The age limit for admission in CSS examination is 21-30 years(for the General category candidate). There is relaxation up to 2 years for those who are already in Government Service and have completed 2 years service. So their age limit is 32 years. This relaxation is also available to candidates belonging to certain remote areas as defined by Government.
Education Limit
The minimum education to appear in CSS examination is Bachelor's degree. The candidate should also have Second Division ("C" Grade) in Bachelor degree by any HEC registered university of Pakistan or an equivalent degree or comparable educational qualifications of a foreign University.
If the candidate has obtained a Third Division ("D" Grade) in Bachelor 's Degree will be eligible for the CSS Examination if he/she has obtained a higher Division in Master's Degree.
If the candidate has foreign degrees which is equivalent to corresponding Pakistani degree will be eligible for the CSS Examination.
Nationality Limit
The candidate must be citizen of Pakistan or permanent resident of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Application Submission
Application fee of competitive examination is Rs.2200. Application submission Period 1st October to 31st October. And Examination Date is held in mid of February
Recheck fee of a paper
If a candidate wants to recheck his/her paper, the rechecking fee per paper is Rs.500. The candidates have to submit dues to the Federal Commission Service Commission.
Number of Chances :
There are only three chances for candidates to appear in the CSS exams and no candidate can appear in the CSS exams more than three times.
CSS EXAM EXPLANATION
To pass the CSS exam candidates has to pass following four multiple stages.
- A) CSS Written Exam
- B) Medical Test
- C) Psychological Test
- D) VIVA VOICE
A) CSS WRITTEN EXAM :
The CSS written examination is the first stage of CSS Exam. According to the FPSC announcement, the written exam is conducted in more than 20 cities of Pakistan.

- Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan
- Islamabad, Rawalpindi,
- Peshawar, Abbotabad, Dera Ismail Khan, Gilgit, Khuzdar,
- Muzaffarabad, Quetta, Skardu
This written exam is conducted in 6 compulsory subjects and 6 optional subjects (to be selected from the list) with a total of 1200 marks.
COMPULSORY SUBJECTS (600 Marks)
- 1. English Essay (100 Marks)
- - An Essay On One Of The Several Specified Topics. (Subjective Exam)
- 2. English Composition (100 Marks)
- - This Paper Is Intended To Test The Ability Of The Candidates In Functional English Comprising Precise Writing, Translation From Urdu Into English, Composition And Usage Of Idioms. (Subjective Exam)
- 3. General Knowledge - 1 (100 Marks)
- - Everyday Science
- 4. General Knowledge - 2 (100 Marks)
- - Current Affairs
- 5. General Knowledge - 3 (100 Marks)
- - Pakistan Affairs (Subjective & Objective Exam)
- 6. Islamiat/ Ethics (100 Marks)
- - Islamic Studies is for Muslim Candidates and Ethics is for Non Muslim Candidates (Subjective & Objective Exam)

Note: The subjects which has 200 total marks there will be two paper and the subjects which has 100 total marks there will be one paper. The qualification marks in CSS written examination are as under:
a) Compulsory Subjects (40% in each subjects)
b) Optional Subjects (33% in each subjects)
c) Aggregate Marks (50%)
B) MEDICAL TEST
The Candidates, who passed in the written examination as above criteria, have to appear for their medical Test before central Medical Board, according to the schedule prescribed by the Ministry of Health.
C) PSYCHOLOGICAL TEST
The medically qualified candidates are given psychological Tests, in individual as well as in Groups, to access their aptitude and personality traits for different Groups/Services. This test is held before viva voce.
D) VIVA VOICE (300 MARKS)
The viva voce is conducted by a larger board with four to five members. The Candidates, who passed in the written examination, Medical Test and Psychological Test is call for Viva Voice. The viva voce test is consists of 300 marks and minimum marks required 100 for become a successful candidate.
