About this book .-
Tensor Calculus written by
John Synge, Alfred Schild.
This text can be divided into two parts. First part consist basic concepts of tensors i.e Riernannian spaces, Rienrannian curvature, and spaces of constant curvature. Second part is concerned with applications to classical dynamics, hydrodynamics, elasticity, electromagnetic radiation, and the theorems of Stokes and Green.
The text is written clearly, contains numerous problems and exerciscs, and at the end of each chapter has a sunllllary of the significant results of the chapter.
Topics include spaces and tensors; basic operations in Riemannian space, curvature of space, special types of space, relative tensors, ideas of volume, and more.

About Author :- The author John Lighton Synge was Irish mathematician and theoretical physicist. His career included significant periods in Ireland, Canada and the USA. He start his career as lecturer at Trinity College then he join as an assistant professor of mathematics at the University of Toronto. He also spent some time at Princeton University, Brown University, Ohio State University. He was also a member of the American Mathematical Society and the London Mathematical Society. He went back to Toronto in 1930, where he was appointed Professor of Applied Mathematics and became Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics. In 1940, he supervised three Chinese students, Guo Yonghuai, Chien Wei-zang and Chia-Chiao Lin, who later became leading applied mathematicians in China and the United States. The author Alfred Schild (1921-1975) was a leading Austrian American physicist. He was born in Istanbul but his early education was in England. Later he travel to Canada and earned his B.A. at University of Toronto, and in 1946 completed his doctorate under the direction of Leopold Infeld. Schild wrote Tensor Calculus text book with John L. Synge. The concepts of this textbook are given very concisely and thus a wide range of subjects.
